May 17th, Canada's May Long Weekend, or Victoria Day, Mark and I drive to Jasper National Park. It is a 4 hour drive, but hey, what else do we have to do? It is rainy and overcast. Once we get there, the mountains remind of us the Grand Tetons, and the forests are thick and beautiful. They haven't been hit by the Pine Beetle, that has infested the Colorado forests. There are natural springs, which we could smell. We did see elk, mountain sheep and a fox crossing the road. We walked around the small town of Jasper, which reminded us of Estes Park. We bought an ice cream cone, Mark, strawberry, me something gooey. All the ice cream in the town is supplied by Nestle, so all stores had the same flavors. No Strawberry Cheesecake, only Cherry. Then we drove home, planning our weekend when we can come again, to hike, go to the hot springs and go see the glacier and ride out to it in the glacier mobiles.
Wow! Impressive mountains. Looks like a pretty neat place. -- Dave
ReplyDeleteWe camped in this area many years ago and took the ride out on the glacier. Well worth it. I still have vivid memories of that trip.
